Nonprofit research

Filing-grounded intelligence on how nonprofits raise, spend, and pay.

Gratiae reads primary filings so you don't have to. Our research covers organizations, financial patterns, grants, people and compensation, contractors, and investments — built directly from what was filed, not estimated.

    What we research

Six areas of filing-grounded coverage, each traceable back to the underlying document.

    Organizations

Profiles built directly from filings — mission, structure, and reporting history over time.

    Financial patterns

Revenue, expense, and asset trends drawn from what organizations actually reported, year over year.

    Grants

Grants received and grants paid, tracked separately, so flows of money can be followed in either direction.

    People & compensation

Officers, directors, and key employees, with reported compensation as disclosed in each filing.

    Contractors

Independent contractors and vendors named in filings, alongside what was reported paid to them.

    Investments

Reported holdings and investment activity as filed, without inference beyond the document.

How we handle scope and gaps

Research integrity depends on being explicit about what filings do and don't tell us.

    Scope: tax years 2017–2023

2024 coverage is being completed. We only publish what filings for a given year actually contain.

    Filings may lag

Organizations file on their own schedule, and some filings arrive months or years after the tax year ends.

    Missing detail is not zero

When a filing omits a figure or schedule, we show it as missing rather than treating the absence as a reported zero.

    Distinct figures, kept distinct

Contributions received, grants received, and grants paid are three different figures. We never collapse them into one another.
